WLD 115 SMAW (Stick) Plate (5 Credit Hours) Class Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 9 Clinical/Work Experience Hours: 0 Prerequisites: None Corequisites: None This course introduces the shielded metal arc (stick) welding process. Emphasis is placed on padding, fillet, and groove welds in various positions with SMAW electrodes. Upon completion, students should be able to perform SMAW fillet and groove welds on carbon plate with prescribed electrodes.

- Demonstrate SMAW electrode classification in compliance with AWS codes.
- Perform a groove weld according to AWS D1.1.
- Demonstrate safe and proper SMAW equipment setup, operation, and shut-down practices in accordance to manufacturer’s recommendations.
