The Human Services Technology Diploma curriculum prepares students for entry-level positions in institutions and agencies which provide social, community, and educational services. Along with core courses, students take courses which prepare them for specialization in specific human service areas. Students will take courses from a variety of disciplines. Emphasis in core courses is placed on development of relevant knowledge, skills, and attitudes in human services.
This Human Services Diploma program is designed for non-licensed positions and does not academically qualify graduates for any state professional license. Graduates from the Human Services Diploma can choose to continue their education at the Associate Degree level and become eligible to sit for the national Human Services Board-Certified Practitioner credential developed by the Center for Credentialing and Education upon Associate Degree completion.
Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates will:
- Identify the knowledge, skills, and roles of a human service worker.
- Analyze experiential learning in small groups and identify and explain the interactions of group members in group settings.
- Perform basic interviewing skills needed to function in a helping relationship using the Microskills Model.
- Demonstrate performance of counseling techniques.
- Demonstrate an integration of the knowledge, skills, and experiences gained in classroom and clinical experiences with emerging trends in the field.
- Assess crisis situations and respond with the appropriate differential techniques applicable to various crisis situations.
- Demonstrate professional work ethics/traits and personal behaviors necessary for career success.
- Apply multicultural competence in service delivery.

Admission Information
The Human Services Technology Diploma program is a pathway only offered for students enrolled in the Gaston Early College of Medical Sciences.
Lab/Clinical Fee
Level 1: $6 per lab hour for Art, Business, Health, Languages, and Math
Level 2: $12 per lab hour for Computer Information, and Natural Sciences
Level 3: $18 per lab hour for Engineering and Industrial, Central Sterile Processing, Health & Fitness Science/Physical Education, Medical Assisting, Phlebotomy, Pharmacy Technology, and Nurse Aide
Level 4: $24 per lab hour for Cosmetology, Esthetics, Veterinary Medical Technology, Practical Nursing, EMS, Associate Degree Nursing, and Health Information Technology
Malpractice Insurance (required for nursing and allied health services programs students): $13 per year
