Medical Billing and Coding Diploma (D25310)

The Medical Billing and Coding Diploma program prepares individuals for positions in medical and allied health facilities requiring a comprehensive knowledge of ICD and CPT codes and computerized billing software. This program is available online and should be started in the fall semester.

Employment opportunities include hospitals, medical offices, research facilities, health insurance companies, billing agencies, and allied health facilities.

Students will gain extensive knowledge of medical terminology, procedural coding and diagnostic coding. In addition to word processing skills and knowledge of other software, students must master English grammar, spelling, and proofreading.

Graduates should qualify for employment in hospitals, medical clinics, doctors’ offices, research facilities, health insurance companies, and allied health facilities. After completion, students are encouraged to contact the American Association of Professional Coders and/or American Health Information Management Association to gain information on becoming a certified coder.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates will:

  1. Code patient procedures accurately utilizing the current CPT coding system related to medical office administration.

Credits obtained from this diploma may be applied toward the associate degree in Medical Office Administration.

Major course credits earned over five years ago will not apply toward the diploma in Medical Billing and Coding.
