PHI 215 Philosophical Issues (3 Credit Hours) Class Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 Clinical/Work Experience Hours: 0 Prerequisites: Take ENG 111 Corequisites: None This course introduces fundamental issues in philosophy considering the views of classical and contemporary philosophers. Emphasis is placed on knowledge and belief, appearance and reality, determinism and free will, faith and reason, and justice and inequality. Upon completion, students should be able to identify, analyze, and critically evaluate the philosophical components of an issue.
Competencies
- Engage in critical thinking.
- Identify, reconstruct, and evaluate philosophical arguments.
- Analyze key philosophical concepts within epistemology, metaphysics, and ethics.
- Demonstrate an understanding of major philosophical views, and how they relate to contemporary issues.
This course has been identified as a Universal General Education Transfer Component (UGETC) course under the North Carolina Comprehensive Articulation Agreement. Students completing courses designated as UGETC, with a C or higher, will receive equivalent general education course credit for those courses at the receiving UNC institution.
