Advising and Testing
|
|
The Advising and Testing Department provides academic advising, transfer advising, and testing services to current and perspective Gaston College students. Advising Centers are located in three locations at the Dallas Campus: Arts and Sciences in RCB 236, Career and Technical Education in CET 119, and Health and Human Services in DBC 174. Advisors are also available to meet with students on the Kimbrell Campus and Lincoln Campus. Testing Services are provided by appointment at all three campus locations.
Academic Advising
Academic advising is an integral part of student success. All new students and first semester students are required to seek assistance with course planning from their assigned academic advisor. It is recommended that continuing students meet with their assigned advisor and log into Self-Service on a regular basis to review academic plans and progress.
Testing Services
The Katherine Harper Testing Center (KHTC), located in the Craig Arts and Sciences building, offers a variety of testing services for students, prospective students and members of the community. Gaston College is dedicated to offering our students a high-quality testing environment and our KHTC team provides a professional, caring, and supportive atmosphere. Testing services are by appointment and include:
- TEAS - Candidates for the Gaston College Nursing and Veterinary Medical Technology programs are required to provide their score form the TEAS test as part of their application packet.
- TABE/CASAS - The first step for any Gaston College student or member of the community seeking to pursue a Basic Law Enforcement Training (BLET) certification is the completion of a reading skills assessment using the TABE/CASAS test.
- GED and HiSet Exams - Gaston College offers the GED and HiSet testing for prospective students or members of the community needing to complete their High School Equivalency (HSE). The GED is comprised of a battery of four (4) online tests while the HiSet is a series of five (5) paper-based tests.
- RISE - Some incoming students may be referred for RISE testing to assist with academic advising and placement.
