The curriculum prepares students to create and implement a variety of literacy activities that can be implemented in early childhood education classrooms. Emphasis is placed on practical application of skills.
Program Learning Outcomes
Graduates will:
- Promote child development and learning by:
a. Knowing and understanding young children’s characteristics and needs.
b. Using developmental knowledge to create healthy, respectful, supportive, and challenging learning environments.
- Building family and community relationships by involving families and communities in their children’s development and learning.
- Observe, document, and assessing to support young children and families by knowing about and using observation, documentation, and other appropriate assessment tools and approaches.
- Use developmentally effective approaches to connect with children and families by
a. Knowing and understanding effective strategies and tools for early education.
b. Using a brad repertoire of developmentally appropriate teaching/learning approaches.
- Use content knowledge to build meaningful curriculum by using their own knowledge, appropriate early learning standards, and other resources to design, implement, and evaluate meaningful, challenging curricula for each child.
- Become a professional by:
a. Engaging in continuous, collaborative learning to inform practice.
b. Integrating knowledgeable, reflective, and critical perspectives on early education.
