The Biotechnology curriculum, which has emerged from molecular biology and chemical engineering, is designed to meet the increasing demands for skilled laboratory technicians in various fields of biological and chemical technology.

Course work emphasizes biology, chemistry, mathematics, and technical communications. The curriculum objectives are designed to prepare graduates to serve in three distinct capacities: research assistant to a biologist or chemist; laboratory technician/instrumentation technician; and quality control/quality assurance technician.

Graduates may find employment in various areas of industry and government, including research and development, manufacturing, sales, and customer service.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates will:

  1. Demonstrate comprehension of life at the molecular and cellular levels.
  2. Apply the fundamental concepts of genetics, immunology, and chemistry to biotechnology procedures and practices.
  3. Demonstrate proficiency in the practice and theory of modern biotechnology.
  4. Illustrate the proper use of a variety of laboratory techniques and procedures with accuracy, precision, and safety.
  5. Demonstrate the ability to communicate results both orally and through written reports.
  6. Apply statistical principles to generate inferences about data or analyze the credibility of scientific results.
