Medical Office Administration-Patient Services Representative, A.A.S. (A25310PS)

The Medical Office Administration-Patient Services Representative curriculum prepares individuals for administrative operations, including patient registration, scheduling, billing, and records management, while ensuring compliance with healthcare regulations and facilitating communication, addressing concerns, and enhancing the overall patient experience.

Upon completion, students will be equipped with advanced administrative skills, including medical office procedures, billing and insurance, healthcare compliance, customer service, and computer software proficiency.

Course work will include medical terminology; information systems; office management; medical coding, billing and insurance; legal and ethical issues; and formatting and word processing. Students will learn administrative and support functions and develop skills applicable in medical environments.

Graduates should qualify for employment in medical and dental offices, hospitals, insurance companies, laboratories, medical supply companies, and other health-care related organizations. Upon graduation, students may be eligible to sit for industry-recognized certification exams.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates will:

  1. Demonstrate decision-making skills in managing office operations, including data entry, communications, equipment maintenance, scheduling, inventory, and financial tasks in the medical setting.
  2. Demonstrate the ability to communicate effectively with all business partners and customers.
  3. Demonstrate proficiency in Microsoft Word by creating, formatting, and managing professional documents in alignment with industry standards.

Students completing the Gaston College Medical Office Administration-Patient Services Representative program may be eligible to sit for the National Healthcareer Association (NHA) Medical Administrative Assistant (CMAA) exam.
