NUC 220 Nuclear Primary Plant Systems (4 Credit Hours) Class Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 2 Clinical/Work Experience Hours: 0 Prerequisites: Take NUC 120 Corequisites: None This course provides the student with detailed knowledge of the primary systems in a nuclear power plant and their interface with the secondary systems and the operation and control of these components and systems. Topics include containment systems, radiation protection systems including components and testing devices, primary systems such as the reactor, reactor vessel, reactor coolant, and reactor coolant pumps, system pressure and water level controls, and refueling systems and reactor safety systems. Upon completion, students should be able to describe nuclear plant primary systems, functioning of components, the interactions between the systems parts, the interactions between the various secondary systems, and the interactions between the secondary and primary systems and the control of these systems.
