The Computer Programming curriculum prepares individuals for employment as computer programmers and related positions through study and applications in computer concepts, logic, programming procedures, languages, generators, operating systems, networking, data management, and business operations.

Students will solve business computer problems through programming techniques and procedures, using appropriate languages and software. The primary emphasis of the curriculum is hands-on training in programming and related computer areas that provide the ability to adapt as systems evolve.

Graduates should qualify for employment in business, industry, and government organizations as programmers, programmer trainees, programmer/analysts, computer operators, systems technicians, or database specialists.

Program Learning Outcomes:

  1. Students will demonstrate the proper use of terminology in relation to information technology.
  2. Students will be able to identify legal, ethical, social, and security issues related to computer programming application development.
  3. Students will demonstrate the ability to design, code, implement, and test computer programming applications using multiple programming languages.
  4. Students will be able to create effective computer programming application documentation.
  5. Students will demonstrate the ability to analyze, design, and develop database systems for computer programming applications.

Gaston College Business and Information Technology Associate Degree Programs are accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP).
