PSY 231 Forensic Psychology (3 Credit Hours) Class Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 Clinical/Work Experience Hours: 0 Prerequisites: PSY 150 Corequisites: None This course introduces students to concepts which unite psychology and the legal system. Topics include defining competency, insanity, involuntary commitment as well as introducing forensic assessment techniques, such as interviewing process, specialized assessments, and collecting collateral information. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate knowledge in areas of forensic psychology: risk assessment, criminal competencies, insanity, psychopathology, and mentally disordered offenders. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement for transferability as a premajor and/or elective course requirement.
