EMS 120 Intermediate Interventions (3 Credit Hours) Class Hours: 2 Lab Hours: 3 Clinical/Work Experience Hours: 0 Prerequisites: EMS 110 and BIO 168 Corequisites: EMS 121 , EMS 130 and EMS 131 Current NC-Emergency Medical Technician certificate is required for students enrolling in this course. This course is designed to provide the necessary information for interventions appropriate to the EMT-Intermediate and is required for intermediate certification. Topics include automated external defibrillation, basic cardiac electrophysiology, intravenous therapy, venipuncture, acid-base balance, and fluids and electrolytes. Upon completion, students should be able to properly establish an IV line, obtain venous blood, utilize AEDs, and correctly interpret arterial blood gases.
