EDU 146 Child Guidance (3 Credit Hours) Class Hours: 3 Lab Hours: 0 Clinical/Work Experience Hours: 0 Prerequisites: ENG 080 , RED 080 , EDU 119 or departmental approval Corequisites: None This course introduces principles and practical techniques including the design of learning environments for providing developmentally appropriate guidance for all children, including those at risk. Emphasis is placed on observation skills, cultural influences, underlying causes of behavior, appropriate expectations, development of self control and the role of communication and guidance. Upon completion, students should be able to demonstrate direct/indirect strategies for preventing problem behaviors, teaching appropriate/acceptable behaviors, negotiation, setting limits and recognizing at risk behaviors. This course has been approved to satisfy the Comprehensive Articulation Agreement for transferability as a premajor and/or elective course requirement. This course is also available through the Virtual Learning Community (VLC).
