The curriculum provides an in-depth study of the corrections, probation, and community based corrections programs. Topics include corrections, community based corrections, correctional law and counseling, this program prepares the student in the additional knowledge required for employment in Corrections and Probation and Parole.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates will:

  1. Identify the various components, processes, and functions of the correctional system.
  2. Identify/discuss legal issues which directly affect correctional systems and personnel.
  3. Identify the basic techniques of counseling, to include observation, listening, recording, interviewing, and problem exploration necessary to form effective helping relationships.
  4. Identify/discuss the various programs from the perspective of the criminal justice professional, the offender, and the community.
  5. Identify major legal issues encompassing incarceration, probation, parole, restitution, pardon, restoration of rights, and other related topics.

Total Semester Hour Credits: 12
