Human Services Technology - Gerontology Certificate (C45380C)

The curriculum prepares students for direct service delivery work to older adults and their families. Course work includes physical, psychological, and social aspects of the aging process; as well as health, wellness, nutrition, diet, and well-being.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates will:

  1. Identify the aging process and its psychological, social, and physical aspects.
  2. Identify how substance use and abuse impacts the quality of life for the older adult population.
  3. Identify health, wellness, and nutrition concepts related to aging.
  4. Identify recreational and leisure activities used to enhance the lives of special populations.

Admission Information


Students applying for admission to the Gaston College Human Services Technology - Gerontology Certificate MUST meet all Gaston College admission requirements for GENERAL ADMISSION to the college. 

  1. Submit a Gaston College Application
  2. Complete Residency Determination for in-state tuition
  3. Apply for financial aid
  4. Meet with an advisor / Attend an information session
  5. Submit official transcripts
  6. Provide proof of course placement requirements

Additional Program Requirements for Human Services Technology

  • Have grades of “C” or better in all required program courses.
