The Mechatronics Engineering Technology curriculum is designed to prepare individuals for jobs requiring electrical, mechanical, and computer skills necessary to work on computer-controlled electromechanical systems with embedded electronics, sensors, and actuators, found in manufacturing environments.

Course work includes basic electricity, fluid mechanics, mechanical drives, instrumentation, motor control, and course specific to electrical, mechanical, or control specialties.

Graduates should be qualified for employment in industrial maintenance and manufacturing including assembly, testing, start-up, troubleshooting, repair, process improvement, and control systems, and should qualify to sit for Packing Machinery Manufacturers Institute (PMMI) mechatronics or similar industry examinations.

Program Learning Outcomes

Graduates must demonstrate:

  1. Knowledge of and hands-on competence in the field of mechatronics engineering technology and specifically in the areas of mechanisms, electrical equipment, electronic equipment, automation including PLCs, computer control systems, and the application of mathematics and physics at algebra and trigonometry level to engineering technology analysis, assembly, and testing of electromechanical equipment.
  2. Knowledge and hands-on competence in the application of the principles of engineering in any environment requiring such knowledge.
  3. An ability to think, analyze, and propose a solution to technical problems requiring knowledge at an associate degree level in manufacturing processes, electro-mechanical design principles, and computer-aided engineering graphics.
  4. Knowledge of and an ability to function individually on teams, and communicate effectively.
  5. An ability to perform as a responsible engineering technology professional, including an understanding of ethical and societal responsibilities, a respect for diversity, a knowledge of contemporary professional, societal, and global issues, commitment to equality, and continuous improvement.
